Our Scholarship Program

Newcomer Funeral Service Group is committed to excellence in funeral service education. We annually award up to $25,000 in scholarships to mortuary science students through our Tradition of Caring® mortuary science scholarship program who demonstrate our core values of Excellence, Trust, Care and Growth. Scholarships are awarded in amounts up to $3,500.
This scholarship is open to all students enrolled in a mortuary science program during the next school year, as well as high school seniors who intend to enroll in a mortuary science course of study. Awards are for undergraduate study only and all institutions must be accredited with the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE).

Who is the scholarship open to?
Our scholarship is open to all students pursuing a degree in mortuary science who will be enrolled during the school year following the scholarship award, as well as high school seniors who intend to enroll in a mortuary science course of study.
What are the eligibility requirements?
Eligible recipients must have a high school diploma or GED and be currently enrolled in a mortuary science program, or be a graduating high school senior who intends to enroll in a mortuary science program.
Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours or 18 quarter hours in a program of mortuary science education at an ABFSE-accredited institution for the semester in which the scholarship will be applied.
Part-time students may also be eligible for a scholarship award.
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
What is required to apply?
To apply, you must provide:
- Information about your history, education and community involvement.
- A 500-word essay about why you chose the mortuary science profession and provide an example that demonstrates one of our Core Values.
- One professional and one character reference letter
- A transcript from your current educational institution
What are the scholarship amounts?
Scholarships are awarded annually in amounts up to $3,500. Scholarships are non-renewable; however, past recipients may reapply annually.
Do you have any other benefits for new graduates?
Yes, we have a student loan repayment assistance program that helps our associates pay off their student loans. The program provides eligible employees up to $100 per month, paid directly to the student loan servicer. Please email us for more information.
