Accounting Services Representative
Job Summary
The Accounting Service Representative is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial support to funeral homes and internal teams. This role includes processing contracts, managing accounts receivable, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with local and state regulations. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to the company’s core values of Excellence, Trust, Care, and Growth.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
1. Demonstrate Core Values of Excellence, Trust, Care and Growth in performing all aspects of position.
2. Maintain a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner so that you get along with families, co-workers, and management.
3. Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with funeral home staff and be available to answer any questions they might have in your area of responsibility.
4. Review contracts for completeness.
5. Enter contracts and merchandise invoices into Great Plains.
6. Work with Funeral Homes on updates and changes to contracts.
7. Enter daily deposits into accounting software and work with locations on credit card and check chargebacks.
8. Enter adjustments to Accounts Receivable as received.
9. Ensure the Aging Report is accurate and available every Friday.
10. Review comments and responses from Funeral Home on weekly Aging Report.
11. Understand Local and State laws for sales tax, use tax and funerals and cremations.
12. Complete calculations for sales tax filings for each location monthly.
13. Review and reconcile funeral advances workpapers for each assigned location.
14. Compile month-end reports for all funeral homes and management.
15. Work with funeral home and cemetery staff, providing information and answering any questions they might have regarding payment of invoices.
16. Cover phones duties and front door access as needed, always maintaining a pleasant, helpful, and professional attitude.
17. Remain up to date on company learning, policies, and procedures as assigned.
18. Light housekeeping to keep the facilities and grounds in perfect order. This includes keeping work areas tidy, picking up litter on the grounds and general straightening up.
Educational, Licensure and Skill Requirements
- A high school education or GED
- A minimum of one year of similar or related experience
- Basic office skills including Microsoft Office and accounting system knowledge
- Good people skills with ability to communicate efficiently a wide range of people
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently within a team environment
- Efficient and accurate
- Ability to manage time effectively in order to organize and prioritize workload
- Ability to work under time constraints and conform with established schedules and deadlines
- Ability to adapt to procedural and system changes.
