The fourth generation

Ren Newcomer graduates from the University of Kansas in 1975 and becomes the fourth generation of the Newcomer family to enter funeral service. In 1978, Ren purchases Penwell-Gabel and Parker-Price Funeral Homes in Topeka, Kansas which will serve as the foundation for growth in the decades that follow.

Entering the cemetery business

Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka is purchased; a beautiful 50-acre property that opened in 1926. Additionally, a funeral home is purchased in Casper, Wyoming.

A change in direction

Sensing an opportunity, Ren establishes Newcomer Funeral Homes, a value-priced alternative to the high cost of funeral services. Newcomer locations are opened in Ohio, New York and Colorado. Expansion continues in Kansas, and the Tradition of Caring(R) Scholarship program is created to support students in each community.

Continued growth and expansion

Newcomer opens locations in Florida and Kentucky and continues to expand operations throughout Colorado, New York and Ohio.

The fifth generation

Ren’s children, Maggie and John, join the company. Newcomer locations are opened in Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin and expansion continues in existing markets.
