Our People

Donut Day 85 rev

It takes a very special person to make a career in funeral service, because this isn't just a job, it's a calling. Our associates believe in what they do and are committed to caring for the needs of families in our communities. They are experienced, skilled and dedicated to ongoing growth and development. They also believe in each other, and our company's Core Values of Excellence, Trust, Care and Growth.

Our associates find all kinds of ways to enjoy their working hours together - from celebrating special days, to supporting community partners and generally finding the "fun" around the funeral home! We know that every associate plays a role in making Newcomer a great place to work, so we seek out professionals who will be a good fit for our team, culture and values.

Our Benefits

Coffee-Day-98 rev

Our benefits are designed to support you and your family's life needs. First, we give you a schedule that you can count on, along with paid time off and maternity leave. Your salary will be competitive and subject to annual review. We offer profit-sharing, because everyone deserves to share in our company's success. Medical, dental, vision and life insurance and voluntary benefits are available and also subject to annual review to ensure that our plans provide effective care when our associates need it the most. Our 401k and IRA retirement options help you plan for the future, and we provide a student loan repayment assistance program and tuition reimbursement.

The coffee, of course, is free.

Our Culture

Donation Newcomer Check Presentation 1

At Newcomer, our culture is driven by our Core Values of Excellence, Trust, Care and Growth. These values serve as points on a compass, helping us to always do the right thing. You will see these values lived out in many ways, from how we support our associates with benefits, ongoing career development and advancement opportunities, to the way we are always looking for new ways to meet the needs of families, to the way we care for our buildings and grounds. Our associates embrace these values and proudly provide families with the best care possible from beautiful, modern facilities. We also love to care for our communities through our charitable giving program, in which associates team up to support community organizations that matter to them.

Hear from our team

“Like most funeral directors, I work very hard during the workday, but I’m always home for dinner with my family. Family time is extremely important to me, and my employer understands that. They value me as an employee and want me to be successful and happy.”

Adam Byers

Funeral Director in Charge
Columbus, OH

“I feel very valued and respected as an employee. I'm young, and a lot of young directors don't feel that way and their superiors don't make them feel that way. When I have an opinion or a suggestion, I actually feel like I'm listened to.”

Alexys Gribble

Funeral Director
Cincinnati, OH

“I think I am lucky to get to come to a job where they care about their employees.”

Julie Garrison

Senior Accounting Services Representative
Topeka, KS

“I chose Newcomer because I liked the diversity, how many families they serve, all different types of families they serve. There are directors here all from different walks of life, varying levels of experience, from other states. It has been a great opportunity for me to learn different skills and techniques to help families.”

Jamie Greenfield

Funeral Director
Albany, NY

“I chose to work at Newcomer because for me, it offered the autonomy that I had felt when I worked at other smaller firms, but then also had resources of the larger places I've worked with. Having both of those things together at one place was something that drew me to Newcomer.”

Alex Mock

Area Manager
St. Louis, MO

“When something comes up, when something needs to change or something needs to be addressed, there's always someone, whether it's IT, Human Resources, Accounting, any time that there's a concern, there's always a direction where you can go where someone's going to help you.”

Nick Kimmey

Funeral Director in Charge
Albany, NY

“I actually get to do something incredibly rewarding. I have more time with my family at home and have begun to spend a little more time with families who have lost a loved one. I feel at home and it is hospitality in a very rare, genuine form.”

Barbara Capriotti

Assistant Manager
Syracuse, NY

“Working for a family-owned company is like no other, and the Newcomers truly care about the families that we serve, and you can see that in every decision that they make for the company. They allow us to do our jobs, they trust us to do our jobs and to make the right decision for families, and they treat us really well and care about our wellbeing.”

Julie Gould

Cemetery Manager
Topeka, KS

“Joining Newcomer straight out of college as an apprentice allowed me to return home to Akron. I am now the Managing Funeral Director and am truly impressed by the dedication our associates show each and every family we serve on a daily basis. Our team goes above and beyond to provide high-quality service at an affordable price. There’s no place I’d rather be.”

Robyn Deterling

Managing Funeral Director
Akron, OH

“I used to be a Funeral Director at a small, family-owned funeral home. It was a very nice place, but as the youngest/newest director, I found myself constantly on call. Working at Newcomer has made my job fun again. At work I am part of a family atmosphere that runs like a well-oiled machine to manage all the details involved in a caring, traditional funeral service. I also love the fact that when I am home with my husband and cats, I have the time to enjoy them. ”

“I chose Newcomer because of the support that is offered here, not only within our Cincinnati market, but our company as a whole. It's something that not everybody has, because they don't have the wingspan that Newcomer does. I think that makes us unique and makes us able to serve families to the highest potential.”
