Family Support Staff

Job Summary

The position will assist the managing funeral director, funeral directors or supervising persons, as the case may be, with services and operating procedures of the funeral business.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  3. Provide assistance to the supervising persons.
  4. Greet visitors to the funeral homes, directing them to the appropriate areas such as arrangement office, business office, chapel or visitation rooms.  Making the visitors as comfortable as possible, seeing that their needs are met.
  5. Answer phones, provide information, taking messages, and transferring calls as needed.
  6. Drive limousine, funeral coach, or service van, maintaining professionalism at all times.  Transport families, flowers, personal belongings, caskets and remains, flower racks, register stands and other necessary items.
  7. As assigned, make sure all necessary and proper equipment and items are available for service.
  8. Assist with visitations and funerals acting as an usher, handing out service folders, placing and closing caskets, greeting visitors and making them comfortable.
  9. Record flowers as to location requirements.
  10. Conducting business related errands such as picking up or delivering death certificates, office supplies, funeral service personnel, or other related business.
  11. Remain up to date on company learning, policies, and procedures as assigned.
  12. Light housekeeping to keep the facilities and grounds in perfect order.  This includes keeping work areas tidy, picking up litter on the grounds and general straightening up.

Job Requirements and Physical Responsibilities

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of three months of similar or related experience
  • The position requires the ability to tolerate exposure to hazardous substances subject to government requirements; occasional lifting, pushing and pulling, with assistance, of objects up to approximately 600 pounds; manual dexterity required for clerical tasks; occasional stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and carrying objects weighing up to approximately 30 pounds for short distances
  • Ability to travel by standard methods of transportation. 
  • Conservative professional dress as detailed in dress code policy
  • Possess a valid Drivers’ License and meet the driving performance standards as determined by management. MVR’s may be reviewed annually for compliance, and any conviction or at-fault accidents should be immediately reported to management
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Varying hours available.  Hours are varied depending on the number of services.  Hours available include Sunday through Saturday.  There is no guarantee on the number of hours available to work. 
  • Possess good communication skills and be self-motivated
