Application Developer

Job Summary

This position will work as a member of the IT Application Development team at Newcomer Funeral Service Group in the development and support of applications and websites used by our customers and associates across the country. Applications are developed using a wide range of technologies, with Microsoft .NET at the core of the technology stack. Development follows the Scrum process, working in small teams to develop quality solutions.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  3. Work with business analysts and other developers to translate business requirements into working solutions, providing estimates and high-level designs as needed.
  4. Design, document and deploy code and database changes for single or multiple systems within timeframe commitments.
  5. Utilize development tools, standards, and testing methodologies (unit and system) to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve application or website issues in a timely manner.
  7. Actively participate as a member of an Agile team following the Scrum process.
  8. Stay current on development practices through personal investment in research, learning, and skill improvement.
  9. Remain up to date on company and department readings as assigned.

Educational and Skill Requirements

  • College or technical training related to software development or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience coding, testing, and debugging applications and websites.
  • Proven experience in C#, Microsoft .NET Framework and .NET Core/5+, MVC, SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), ASP.NET, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Git, Azure DevOps (or other CI/CD system), Azure Services.
  • Experience or familiarity with any of the following is a plus: Blazor, Microsoft Power Platform, Jira, Microsoft Access, Classic ASP, VB.NET.
  • Capable of working independently or as part of a team with minimal guidance and direction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Work Conditions

• Ability to work at least 40 hours/week at Newcomer Funeral Service Group headquarters in Topeka, KS
• Sitting for extended periods of time
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
